Build 52. Front Wing Fit 1
Cut once, measure twice, was my mentality here. Except here it translated as glue once, measure a thousand times!
So the first thing on my mind here is that the manual calls for a spirit level and I've seen other blogs reference them as well. The problem is though that the wheel may be setup (without you knowing at this stage) with some camber and also the axle stands may not be keeping the car perfectly level so I decided I would get the level of the wheel, and use that as my reference level for the wing stay. Luckily both wheels were pretty much level, but one was slightly cambered, and I did use this to offset the level of the wing stay. I then measured from the front of the stay to the mounting bracket to achieve 80mm. At this point I used two pieces of masking tape and a pen to mark the approximate place of the stay on the brackets.
Once I was ready I removed the stay, put down some protective plastic and card, and then applied a bead of the adhesive onto the bracket as per the manual. I then offered up the stay to the brackets once more, using the masking tape as a guide as to where it should sit, and pressed it into place.
Once in place I rechecked all the levels WRT the wheel may times, I also ensured that the stay was on straight. I then wrapped it in the masking tape before aligning it all for the final time. Wrapping it in tape will knock the position slightly so make sure you do the final align after the taping!!! The final measuring was done using a spirit level and marker pen (See the below right picture, purple marks on the top of the spirit level) to make sure that the distance from the wheel to the edge of the stay was the same from the front to near the back (the very back flares out a bit so this cannot be used as a guide). I also checked the distance from the front of the wheel to the front of the stay, for me this measured ~40mm, and I used this to make sure the other side wing stay was sitting at the same position forward as this one. Both ended up being approx. 83mm from their front wing stay mounting bracket.
Once they were both one and aligned, I then remeasured it all again and double checked that they all looked aligned correctly as a whole! It was then left for 24 hours, before it needed extra adhesive being applied underneath as part 2.
